"The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera." -Dorothea Lange

Photography is my career, my hobby, my escape, my entertainment...but above all my greatest teacher.

It has taught me how to see. To deconstruct the world in front of me as dots, that can be connected however I see fit. It has taught me the calmness, patience, and defered judgement needed to grasp things from as many sides as possible. A trait that has shaped who I am and how I make images. The ability to percieve light, compose unexpecdatley, and savvy texture are esoteric gifts I cherish deeply. It's taught me things about myself and the way I see the world I doubt I could accurately put into words. .

A little about me...

I took my first photography class junior year in highschool, by the end of that year my photography teacher had given me the keys to the lab and the dark room. I would get to school early.. senior year... I would mix chemistry for the classes that day, and have time, headphones on, all alone in the darkroom. I had talked my principle into getting 2 independnet studies in photography and my parents in backing me in going to college for it.... As I transitioned through MIAD, the industry transitioned to digital. I was in the last class to go through the C-Printing lab before it was converted to a computer lab. Two Weeks before I graduated I started freelance assiting at Kohls Photo Studio... I've shot a lot and learned alot, and after 10 years of shooting day in and dayout as a commercial photographer I still make personal work and seekout work I can own, opportunities to create images that fit my vision @ry4nh4n4m4n.
